Chapter 7

Tapping on the window, startled Chandra. Her body jumped and her eyes flew open. When they adjusted, she saw Malik bending down on the side of the car looking at her with annoyance covering his face. Continuing to lay in her spot, it took her a while to realize that she was outside sleeping in her car, something she thought was just a terrible dream. Reaching for the handle, she lifted it and quickly elevated her seat, until they were at eye level. Afraid he was there to kick her out of the car as well; she hesitantly opened the driver’s side door.

“Get in the damn house before you freeze out here,” he ordered, before walking away.

Happy that he wasn’t outside to continue their fight, she climbed out of her car and stood up. The sun was just beginning to light up the sky, and the chill was even more bitter than it was just hours before. Swiftly, she walked over to the front of the house and up the stairs. The heat inside the house instantly wrapped around her chilled body as if it were a heating blanket. She exhaled, taking it all in, before turning and locking the door behind her. Making her way into the hall bathroom, she relieved herself, before going inside their bedroom.

“Jump in the shower before you make my breakfast. Fucking around with you, I’m running late, and I only have about forty five minutes before I have to head out. If you move your ass, I can eat way before then,” he spoke with his back towards her, never turning around.

Doing as she was told, she hurried into the bathroom and turned on the shower water. While waiting for it to adjust to the correct temperature, she made her way into her walk-in closet and removed a pair of leggings and a long t-shirt from a hanger before reaching into the drawer to grab underwear. Sitting everything on the vanity, she dropped the dress she was wearing onto the floor and hopped into the shower. As the warm water rained down on her, she sighed because it felt so good; she made a mental note to take a long hot bath once Malik was gone. Doing her best to keep track of time, she soaped up as fast as she could, rinsed, and exited the shower stall in less than five minutes.

Dressed, she darted into the kitchen to see what she could whip up in a short amount of time. Snatching open the fridge, she was relieved to see a carton of eggs and package of bacon. The freezer held the final piece of the puzzle, which was a half box of waffles. Moving around the kitchen like a trained chef, Chandra did numerous things at once, just to finish his breakfast in enough time so he could eat. With about twenty minutes to spare, she sat his food on a plate, and sat it on the island, letting him know that she was done.
